Gracie is a full grown Red-eared Slider turtle who came to Healing HEART Sanctuary in October 2011. Abandoned by her former owner at a local Petco, Gracie was either sick or malnourished from living in a tank so dirty the water was like sludge. Because Petco cannot take in abandoned animals, the manager wasn’t sure what he would do with Gracie.
That same day, Laura Roggendorf, the Executive Director of HHS walked in to ask a question about a pond product. The store manager jumped at the chance to ask HHS to take Gracie (is it ever really by chance?) Needless to say, Gracie went home to HHS that day. Thankfully, she was not too compromised and became a good companion for Jenny, the Red-eared Slider water turtle.(distracts from Gracie’s story). (too much info for these readers) Her nickname of Miss Polific comes from the fact that she lays lots of eggs, over 100 so far! (Hopefully she will stop soon!
