Bitty is an African Sulcata tortoise who with his brother Itty, at 4 years old were some of the founding members of Healing HEART Sanctuary.
As is common with their breed, as they get older, the males will become aggressive with each other. Even when kept separate, occasionally they would find a way to come together; and over time Bitty developed a lung condition brought on by brother’s aggression. Therefore, although they are brothers, they had to be separated.
Bitty especially enjoys the new Central Coast location of HHS where he gets to get out and roam twenty full acres. He’s in tortoise heaven! We’ve attached a Bluetooth tracking device to his shell to make finding him at the end of the day easier.
Bitty has remained a very social tortoise with anyone other than another male Sulcata. He has since became friends with Jenny, one of HHS‘s Red-eared Slider turtles. In addition to cozying up with Jenny, Bitty likes to hang out with people, not as the center of attention, but just one of the crowd.
