Molly is a Chihuahua/Min Pin mix who came to Healing HEART Sanctuary in March 2012 at about five years old. She was found on the streets of Berkeley, CA, and brought to an animal shelter. There they realized something was very different about her. Molly has a rare condition called Anal Atresia, which means she has no anus and unfortunately poops through her vagina. Most dogs do not survive this condition without surgery but her own body figured out how to connect the two systems. Urinary tract infections are also common for dogs who have this condition. Molly is one of the lucky ones who doesn’t get infections and didn’t need surgery, which would have rendered her incontinent. We just have to make sure her stools stay somewhat soft so they can easily pass. Going potty for her can be like giving birth each time, poor girl. Molly is quite the character though, and gets everyone excited when she decides it’s time to spastically run around. She is so fast and crazy that all the dogs get into the game and all heck breaks out! Molly has a softer side too, she loves to snuggle… be warm and wear her vast collection of sweaters and jackets.
