Rugby is a Mallard duck who came to Healing HEART Sanctuary in June 2012 from a waterfowl rescue with Blue, another HHS duck. The day that Blue was to be transported from the rescue to HHS, was the same day Rugby was brought into the group.
After working together, the staff and members of both organizations decided to also take Rugby, as a companion for Blue. And what a companion he is! The two are virtually inseparable. Rugby has also taken a fancy to Carmella, another duck who he tends to protect. He is shyer than the other ducks and would prefer to be invisible from people if the choice was his. Rugby has a atrophied leg, that he uses as a cane, most likely from a fishing line accident. His name comes from the colorful stripe that male Mallard ducks have on their wings. When Rugby and Blue stand next to each other their stripes make them look like they are members of the same rugby team.
