Bella is a Yellow Labrador Retriever who came to Healing HEART Sanctuary in August 2009 when she was about three months old. When she was six weeks old a virus hit her neurological system causing her to be unbalanced and fall off of a couch, injuring herself.
It was never fully determined if her back legs, which do not bend, came from the virus or the fall, but either way they are straight as poles.
Bella used a cart/wheelchair initially but eventually learned to get up and walk/run using her back legs together as one, kind of like a pogo stick, and she LOVES to run and fetch her toy! It can be any toy, as long as she picks it! Bella still has a wheelchair that she uses when she’sgoing to be on rough surfaces that could scrape her feet, but 99% of the time she’s good all on her own.
Bella is super sweet… but be warned, she has no spacial awareness. She only knows to stop once she runs into you, and not before!
